What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda, an ancient holistic healing system from India, means "the science of life" in Sanskrit. With a history spanning over 5,000 years, it focuses on balancing the body, mind, and spirit to promote overall well-being and prevent illness. The Philosophy of Ayurveda
At the core of Ayurveda is the belief that the universe, including the human body, is composed of five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether (space). These elements combine to form three fundamental energies known as doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each person has a unique balance of these doshas, which influences their physical, mental, and emotional characteristics.
The 3 Doshas
1. Vata Dosha

- Qualities: Dry, light, cold, rough, subtle, mobile

- Imbalance: Imbalanced Vata can cause dry skin, constipation, insomnia, anxiety, joint pain, and irregular digestion.
- Balancing Vata: Warm, nourishing foods, regular routines, staying warm, and grounding activities like yoga and meditation help balance Vata.
2. Pitta Dosha
- Elements: Fire and Water
- Qualities: Hot, sharp, light, oily, intense, spreading

- Body: Individuals with a dominant Pitta dosha often have a medium build, warm body temperature, and oily skin.
- Mind: They are intelligent, driven, and have strong leadership qualities but can be prone to irritability and anger.
- Health: Balanced Pitta supports digestion, metabolism, and intelligence. Imbalance can cause inflammation, acid reflux, skin rashes, and excessive sweating.
- Imbalance: Imbalanced Pitta can lead to inflammation, acid reflux, skin rashes, anger, and excessive sweating.
- Balancing Pitta: Cooling foods, staying hydrated, avoiding excessive heat, and practicing calming activities help balance Pitta.
3. Kapha Dosha

- Qualities: Heavy, slow, steady, solid, cold, soft, oily

- Mind: They are compassionate, patient, and stable but may struggle with lethargy and resistance to change.
- Health: Balanced Kapha provides strength, immunity, and stability. Imbalance can lead to weight gain, congestion, lethargy, and depression.
- Imbalance: Imbalanced Kapha can result in weight gain, congestion, lethargy, depression, and fluid retention.
- Balancing Kapha: Light, warm foods, regular exercise, staying active, and stimulating activities help balance Kapha.
